Journey

What to Expect

What can I expect during the first appointment?

The first appointment is an opportunity to understand your child's current concerns, medical and developmental history, strengths, and family circumstances.

We will discuss what brings your family to treatment, how your child's health may be affecting daily life, and what you hope to accomplish through services. Together, we will identify appropriate goals and determine how pediatric health psychology can best support your child and family.

Will parents participate in my child's appointments?

Parent and caregiver involvement is individualized based on your child's age, developmental level, treatment goals, and clinical needs.

Parents may participate directly in appointments, meet with the psychologist separately, or be involved through consultation and parent guidance.

How frequently will my child be seen?

The frequency of appointments depends on your child's clinical needs, treatment goals, safety considerations, and what is practical for your family.

Some children may benefit from weekly appointments, while others may require less frequent follow-up or consultation.

How long will my child need psychological services?

There is no single timeline that applies to every child. The length of treatment depends on the child's needs, treatment goals, response to intervention, and changes in their medical or psychological circumstances.

Our goal is to provide the level of support that is clinically appropriate while helping children and families develop skills they can use beyond treatment.

Will you communicate with my child's medical providers?

When clinically appropriate and with appropriate authorization, collaboration with a child's medical team can be an important part of pediatric health psychology.

Coordination may help ensure that psychological recommendations are consistent with the child's broader healthcare needs.

Are telehealth appointments available?

Telehealth may be available when clinically appropriate and permitted by applicable licensing and practice requirements. Please contact our office to determine whether telehealth is appropriate for your child's needs.
